Santa Claus is coming to town (hopefully)

Here we are embarking on another year of holiday bliss! Or as we like to call it, running around like a chicken with our heads cut off. But it is worth it, that is for sure!

With Christmas time coming up I have asked my oldest son what he would like to ask Santa for this year. Gone are the days of spending at most $25 and having him be content with some matchbox cars and maybe a new Thomas train. This year was TOTALLY different. He quickly replied, an Nintendo DS, a Wii, and Mario Kart for the Wii. OY VEY! Really?!?! So, I'm guessing that is about $350-450 worth of stuff. Um, yeah, not gonna happen!

But being the type of mom that would really enjoy having a Wii too (lol) has been looking on Craigslist and Ebay seeing if there are any used ones that I could possibly get that would work just as good for the big family Christmas present. So far, not finding anything :( I am happy that my children are not spoiled as much as most kids. I think it makes them grateful for what they do have and appreciate it more.

This year is going to be probably one of the tightest Christmas's we have had and I am really trying not to think about the commercial side of it as much, but the true meaning of Christmas. Jesus, my Savior was born over 2000 years ago. I really hope my kids will grow up really understanding that this holiday isn't about a big, fat, jolly, old man, but about a little baby that was born so long ago, that has impacted this world in so many ways. There has been much debate about the Messiah. Which I think is ironic. Why would the vast majority of the world dedicate a whole day and start preparing for that day at least a month in advance for the existence and birth of one man, just because it seemed good at the time.

We are going to start preparing for Jesus' birthday tomorrow by stringing lights, pulling out our nativity scene and other decorations. I get such a kick out of watching my kids eyes light up when looking at all the beautiful treasures and ornaments neatly tucked in boxes and getting to pull them out one by one to display in the house. I definitely cherish these moments with them.

Here's to you Jesus! I hope and pray that He will remain our focus through this holiday season, and not the commercialism that has seeped it's way in.

Happy decorating everyone! I hope you all take a moment to think about making it pretty like a grand birthday party for an amazing King, and not some silly, cheesy decorations for Santa Claus...
