So, this is Kelyn, as previously mentioned. She looks so sweet and innocent doesn't she? Don't believe the picture. It is deceiving. Let me tell you all why...
Last night I got the privilege of going out with my husband and two of my best friends who also happen to me by sister in laws to a movie. (Harry Potter, and it was superbalous!!!) When both Adam and I get to go out together we always feel blessed! Well, we paid of it later that night.
We went to a late showing and didn't get home until about 1am and we both fell asleep fairly quickly after getting home. Our daughter is in the middle of potty training right now and decided that last night was a good time to wake up in the middle of the night to use the restroom without assistance. Low and behold, damages ensued! She went potty like a good girl but not being under supervision she thought it was a good idea to use a whole roll of toilet paper for the clean up process.
So, you can probably guessed what happened next. The toilet overflowed and we are guessing she tried to stop it due to the chain on the inside of the toilet was wrapped around the lever making the water pump on into the night, covering not only the bathroom floor, but also the hallway, Kelyn's bedroom and our room. And I'm not talking about a small little trickle or damp spot. We are talking MAJOR flooding with standing water.
God bless Adam for waking up to a naked Kelyn crying and looking extremely concerned. When he went to pick her up and stepped down on the carpet with a splash he started yelling, "Wake up Geneve!!! The house is flooded!!!" That was at 3:30 this morning.
I got Kelyn cleaned up and situated back in bed while Adam assessed the damages. He quickly drove over to his dads house to get a shop vac to start getting some of the standing water off the flooring. I went around with towels, sheets, any thing absorbent that I could find. Adam finally pooped from shopvacing at about 5 am and I continued the clean up till about 8 am.
My parents were gracious enough to take the chitlins for the day so they wouldn't sustain any injuries either by the damage to the house or by us... Adam being the jack of all trades that he is pulled up all of the carpet and the padding which we decided we just need to replace since it's basically a 600 sq ft sponge. Luckily it is cheap to replace. We then shopvac'd the sub flooring making sure any water that could come up did. We turned on two iddy biddy fans to dry out the back of the house, and with much surprise it is actually working WAY faster than I had anticipated.
So, it looks like it will be another full day tomorrow making sure the floor is completely dry, disinfecting the sub flooring, replacing the padding and re stretching the carpet, then shampooing the carpet thoroughly. All of this because my lil munchkin wanted to be a big girl.... I really can't get mad at her for it, it was an honest mistake, but sure as you know what we are taking pictures of the damages and putting them in her baby book to let her know of how it was to potty train her.
I look forward to the day that all of them know better than to do things like this. I have a feeling it is going to be a long road, but I can hope and pray right?
